Paul Alvarez, MM, NPDP

Paul Alvarez is a Principal of MetaVu, Inc., a recognized leader in sustainable business development. MetaVu was chartered to help companies establish the business case for sustainability, drive the innovation process and measure the ROI. Paul leads MetaVu’s Utility and Innovation practices. For the past 25 years, Paul has held management and advisory roles of increasing responsibility for some of the leading innovators in U.S.industry, including Baxter Healthcare, Motorola, Searle Pharmaceuticals (now Pfizer), and Xcel Energy. He has successfully introduced product, process, marketing, and business model innovations in multiple industries in both B2B and B2C markets. Paul began his own consulting practice in 2006 and has been increasingly influenced by sustainable development concepts through his working relationship with MetaVu, which he joined as Principal in 2009. In addition to a distinguished career in healthcare innovation, Paul has focused on the electric utility sector in the last decade, specializing in renewable generation strategy and demand-side management portfolios, programs,and promotions. He is one of the leading experts on smart grid value in the United States, having led the two largest, independent evaluations of smart grid deployments in Boulder, Colorado and Cincinnati, Ohio for MetaVu.
 

Mr. Alvarez holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University and a Master’s Degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He is certified as a New Product Development Professional by the Product Development and Management Association and currently leads its Special Interest Group on Sustainable Innovation. His work has been published in Public Utilities Fortnightly and the Journal of Natural Gas and Electricity.
