Quarterly Analyst Calls:  The Changing ESG Landscape.  On the 2nd Thursday of the last month of each calenar quarter, MetaVu and CRD Analytics host webcasts that address the rapid evolution of sustainability indexes, ratings and ESG investing. Product Development and Management Association's Sustainable Innovation Special Interest Group Meetings.  On the third Tuesday of each month MetaVu Principal Paul Alvarez, President of the PDMA's Sustainable Innovation Special Interest Group, moderates presentations describing best practices in Sustainable Innovation.  2012 presentations by Ingersoll Rand, Dupont, Hewlett Packard, and others have addressed sustainable packaging; the integration of sustainability into new product development processes; selling sustainable innovations to customers; and sustainable materials and supply chain management, to name just a few.  To register, please visit the PDMA's website.

MetaVu hosts innovative benchmarking workshops and frequently speaks at industry conferences and events. Previous events have included:

DistribuTECH 2012, San Antonio, January 23.    MetaVu Principal and Practice Leader Paul Alvarez will led a pre-conference Utility University® course titled: 'Optimizing the Value of Smart Grid Investments'.  Participants improved their understanding of stakeholder expectations, the primary sources of smart grid value, performance evaluation, operational impacts to functional domains, and commonly-observed opportunities for improvement.   

DistribuTECH 2012, San Antonio, January 25.  MetaVu Principal and Practice Leader Paul Alvarez moderated a panel session of smart grid industry leaders, 'Lessons Learned to Date:  Regulator and Utility Perspectives'.  Speakers included Randy Huston, Executive Director, Infrastructure and Smart Grid, Xcel Energy; the Honorable Dana Murphy, Chair, Oklahoma Corporations Commission; and Mark Wyatt, Vice President, Smart Energy Systems, Duke Energy.

2011

2011NARUC Annual Meeting, St. Louis, November 13.  Metavu Principal and Practice Leader Paul Alvarez presented 'Smart Grid Regulatory Update' to the Staff Subcommittee on Electricity and Electric Reliability.  The Update summarized what state regulators have done, are doing, and may yet consider doing to encourage investor-owned utilities to maximize the value of smart grid investments for customers.

Association for Demand Response and Smart Grid, Washington DC, July 12.  MetaVu Principal and Practice Leader Paul Alvarez presented 'Implications of a Smarter Grid for Utility Consumer Programs'.  Participants learned of opportunities made possible by smart grid capabilities to enhance Demand Side Management (DSM) program portfolios (what is offered), program designs (features and options), and promotions. 

2010

Utility Renewable Energy Performance Benchmark Workshop, Denver, October 2010. This no-cost workshop sponsored by MetaVu and a leading Investor-Owned Utility helped select IOUs understand how their peers are managing renewable energy risks and opportunities from a shareholder perspective. The survey and subsequent workshop investigated IOU renewable energy performance on a variety of measures, including organizational structures, resource planning/compliance, regulatory and legislative advocacy, dispatch/power operations, distribution operations, renewable product options, DG incentive program designs, and corporate strategy/risk/brand. The workshop provided the opportunity for participants to review survey results, identify common challenges, share best demonstrated practices, prioritize renewable strategies, and build relationships with peers at other utilities. For more information on the workshop or the benchmark survey, e-mail Utility Practice Leader Paul Alvarez at pja@metavu.com.

Front End of Innovation 2010, Boston, May 3-4.  MetaVu Principal and Practice Leader Paul Alvarez spoke on Sustainable Innovation and served on a panel discussing performance measurement. Paul discussed how well corporations are innovating in product, portfolio, production processes, materials, and packaging from a sustainability perspective. For details on the Front End of Innovation conference, visit the event's Web site.

Society of Petroleum Engineers Health/Safety/Environment 2010, Rio de Janeiro, April 12-14. As is MetaVu's tradition, the company had a significant presence at this event. Having won the Knowledge Sharing award at the last SPE HSE conference (Nice, 2008), expectations were high.  MetaVu founder and CEO Mark Serwinowski presented his paper on Social Responsibility and associated performance and operations benchmarks in the Oil and Gas sector as part of a panel session, and Sr. Business Analyst Jessica Marshall presented a paper co-authored with Mr. Serwinowski on optimum organizational structures in Oil and Gas companies' HSE functions. For more details, visit the Society of Petroleum Engineer's Web site.

Renewable Energy World 2010, Austin, February 23-24.  MetaVu Principal and Practice Leader Paul Alvarez spoke and served on a panel discussing utility integration issues. Paul's presentation focused on how markets are defined by the confluence of PURPA, renewable energy standards, and the monopolist's covenant define renewable energy markets. Using a case study, Mr. Alvarez demonstrated how builders, developers, and manufacturers can creatively work within the rules to improve the competitiveness of their utility bids. Click here to find out more about 2011's Renewable Energy World event.

Oil and Gas Health/Safety/Environment Performance Benchmark Workshop, Houston. This paid multi-client engagement included an objective assessment of participating oil and gas companies' HSE performance. On-site assessments were conducted in the weeks preceding the workshop to evaluate participants' performance in capital stewardship, operations and process optimization, environmental footprint, measurement metrics, resource efficiency, risk management, organizational capabilities, legacy liability management, stakeholder engagement, and other areas. The workshop provided the opportunity for participants to review results, identify common challenges, share best demonstrated practices, prioritize HSE strategies, and build relationships with peers at other Oil and Gas companies.

Product Development and Management Association, 33rd Annual International Conference, Anaheim, CA-October 31st- November 4. The conference was held at the Disneyland Hotel.
